Black History Month- Letter to My Younger Self – DCC Armani
Dear Younger Self,
I hope that you wake up every day knowing just how amazing you are! No, seriously amazing! You will accomplish so much in a short period. Life will not always be kind, but you will persevere and conquer every obstacle that you encounter.
I want to let you know that you are so much stronger than you think. “Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you.” There will be people in your life who will doubt and diminish your abilities simply because of your skin color. Continue to put your faith in God and rise above the adversities with grace and poise.
You are beautiful, brilliant, and talented. Your complexion, hair, and curves will soon break barriers that will set the tone for generations to come. They’ll call it “Black Girl Magic” because there’s no other way to explain it. You don’t give yourself enough credit because you’re always pushing to be better.
Although, you indeed have to be twice as good to get half as much, never let that discourage you. People notice the work ethic and tenacity embedded inside of you. Everything happens in God’s perfect timing, and you are well on your way to fulfilling your goals. Every dream and promise will come to pass. Hold on to your authentic self, and remember that you are now breaking chains and generational curses that have bound our people for centuries. Dance, sing, laugh, and love for all of the black girls that weren’t afforded an opportunity, or never envisioned it as so.
You are your ancestors’ wildest dreams. You are worthy. You are enough! I am so proud of the beautiful Black Princess that you are, and I embrace the essence of the Queen that you dream of being.
Xoxo,
DCC Armani
