Spirit of DCC!

Spirit of DCC!

By Brooke Wicker Alexander
On Friday, December 9th, over 200 DCC Alumni & their families celebrated the start of ‘Spirit of DCC’ weekend by attending the Christmas Extravaganza at The Star in Frisco, Texas!  Hot cocoa & cookies were served as Alumni mixed & mingled with their sisters, took photos, caught up with each other. Screams of joy and roars of applause rang through the air as the current DCC performed this annual holiday treat.  The evening came to a close with DCC Alumni and their families taking photos with Santa, decked out in his finest Cowboys attire, and making memories, of course!

On Saturday, December 10th, 180 DCC Alumni gathered at the Highland Park High School Activities Center to rehearse for their encore performance of their 2021 Halftime, which commemorated the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders 60th Anniversary.  Hair was tossed, shoulders shimmied, and giant smiles were shared, as the ladies perfected every 8 count and yard line. There was also time to reminisce on yesteryear – the thrill of dancing on the turf again.

Early Sunday morning, DCC Alumni arrived at 7am, eager & anxious to once again have their toes on the field at AT&T Stadium.  Bags were checked, wristbands issued and poms were fluffed, as the ladies made their way down the tunnel.  After a 90 minute rehearsal, a buffet breakfast was shared with more talk of families, jobs, and holiday plans.  Before too long, it was time to fluff!  Just as in their glory days, curling irons were on high heat, hairspray filled the air, makeup was touched up &  double checked by each other, and teeth were checked – for their smiles had to be perfect, and off to the field they went! Butterflies in stomachs and 8 counts going through their heads, the performance started like a flash and a dream…it was as if  time stood still and they all were back in uniform, cheering on their beloved Cowboys.  After waving to the crowds, shedding a few happy tears, and catching their breath, it was back to the real world…oh what memories they made!
